Even if they are mostly considered filthy and inferior beings, some gods grew fond of some humans and gifted them with abilities to survive the great restart. It was a bit like a sponsorship relationship, in exchange of powers, humans had to provide a good performance for the gods' bored eyes.

Abilities?
Going from mental and physical enhancement to unordinary powers, the abilities may vary depending on the person and the blessing of its god. Some may also be bestowed with holy artifacts- guns, swords, bows, etc, holding magical powers- if the gods like the show they put on.
